Should I Seek Help?

"The answer to the question “Does psychotherapy work?” is a resounding “Yes.”  The Heart and Soul of Change 2010

Men and therapy:  We are told as men we are supposed to handle life on our own.  We don't need to ask for help. We got it covered.  To ask for help is weakness.  We only ask for help when our pain or the pain of our loved one is unbearable.

In this day and age science helps us understand to a much greater degree our need for connection and the profound consequences of trauma. There is neuroscience behind an understanding of the value of therapy.

"Mental health is an ongoing process of dedication to reality  at all costs" F. Scott Peck

Childhood and other life experiences shape what we believe about ourselves, others, and the world.  This makes up our reality.  Trauma and abuse significantly distorts our reality and how we respond to challenges.

Thankfully, we are hardwired to heal.  Neuroplasticity reveals that as we face our trauma and face our problems our brains begin to heal.  As we use our brains differently our brain creates new neuropathways reinforcing new thinking, feelings, and behaviors.

Perhaps the most important factor in this healing process is in connection with others, your therapist, partners, friends, and support groups.

Get help now. You can live the life you have wanted.

My Approach

My philosophy of counseling focuses on treating the whole person.  I explore connection between the body, mind, social, and spiritual realities of the clients I work with.  These elements are integrated into an inseparable whole – the unique you.  At the core this includes the spiritual nature of your need to matter, to belong, your purpose for being, understanding what you hope for, and what is getting in the way of living the life you desire.  The healing journey is not just about stopping the behaviors creating so much pain to you and others, it is about living the life you want. My quest with you is to understand what is creating your pain and to help you address the underlying causes in order to create a path forward to the life you want.
